  • Numbering 4.4 million, American Indians are one of the smallest minorities in the U.S., accounting for 1.5% of the population. The largest tribe is the Cherokee, which accounts for 18% of all American Indians.

  • 56% of American Indian households own their home, a homeownership that exceeds that of African-Americans or Hispanics.
  • American Indians are less likely than the average worker to be managers or professionals and are more likely to be service workers.
